
LumberKings Defeat Division Leader CornBelters

The LumberKings returned home Sunday afternoon to take on the Normal CornBelters. A Great River Division matchup was full of fireworks on Sunday at Nelson Corp Field.
The CornBelters were able to jump on Jackson Kent early with a 3-RBI double to right field from Alex Steinbach in the top of the third. The LumberKings were able to respond with two RBI doubles of their own from Adam Weed and Brett McCleary respectively.
The CornBelters put one across in the top of the 7th but other than that the teams were held scoreless heading into the bottom of the 8th inning.
In the bottom of the frame, the LumberKings loaded the bases against the relief pitcher Brett Pannick. He was replaced by Jacob Lotz as Brayden Frazier stepped up into the box. Frazier knocked in two runs on an 2-RBI single to centerfield. He was followed up by an RBI infield single from Adam Weed, and an RBI single from Izayah Fullard to increase the LumberKing lead 6-4.
Casey Day came in for the save and retired the CornBelters in order in the top of the ninth.
The LumberKings improve to (11-17), the CornBelters drop to (14-11). Jared Simpson gets the win for the LumberKings (1-0), Brett Pannick gets the loss (0-2) and Casey Day gets the save (4).
The LumberKings return to Nelson Corp Field July 1st to take on the Quincy Gems, first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
