
LumberKings Cruise in 14-4 Victory over Quincy

CLINTON, IOWA- On Tuesday night the Clinton LumberKings played host for the second of two, against the Quincy Gems.
Brody Brecht (University of Iowa) started things off for Clinton on the mound. In his season debut Brecht struck out four and allowed three earned runs over 1.2 innings.
Following the Gems scoring one in the top half of the first inning, Clinton gave Brecht plenty of support in the bottom half. The LumberKings sent 11 men to the plate facing Gems' starter Kolby Kiser (SW Minnesota State University). In the inning the Quincy right-hander walked six Clinton batters and allowed two hits, while the LumberKings put up a six spot in the frame. Adam Weed (University of Illinois Chicago) capped off the rally with a two-run single making it 6-1 after one full inning of play.
After the LumberKings tallied two in the third, Clinton put up five more runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a Cade Moss (University of Iowa) three-run double. On the night Moss drove in five runs in his second start behind the plate of 2022.
Clinton put up one more run in the sixth and Tyler Stern (Mount Mercy University) got the final three outs in the 14-4 Clinton victory in seven innings, as per the Prospect League 10-run rule.
Ben Beutel (University of Iowa) made his debut in relief for the LumberKings as well. The former Iowa reliever looked sharp, tossing three innings, giving up one run and striking out four.
The LumberKings now hit the road to start a four-game string against the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp, the first two in Peru, Ill.
First pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
