LumberKings 2019 Opening Day Roster Set

Clinton, IA (March 30) - In conjunction with the Miami Marlins, the Clinton LumberKings announce an Opening Day roster that with feature Connor Scott, Miami's 2018 1st round pick, and four of MLB.com's Top 30 Marlins prospects.

First-year Manger Mike Jacobs' LumberKings will boast some of the Marlins highest draft picks and most feared hitters. Scott (No. 6 Prospect) was taken 13th overall in last year's draft, in front of catcher Will Banfield (No. 11 Prospect) - tabbed by Baseball America to be Miami's best defensive player taken. Former Mariners prospect Christopher Torres (No. 20 Prospect) will bring a switch-hitting bat while Thomas Jones (No. 30 Prospect), who stole 20 bases in 2019, will add plenty of speed.

The infield will include power bats Sean Reynolds, who slugged 17 home runs in over 76 games Batavia in 2017, and Marcos Rivera, who smashed 12 with Greensboro last season. Son of Major Leaguer Dave Hollins - Bubba will serve as a third basemen while Demetrius Sims comes to Clinton having played primarily at shortstop.

Joining Banfield in the catching corps is J.D. Osborne, a .310 hitter in 2018 he began his season in Batavia before his early August promotion to Greensboro.

The LumberKings outfield will spotlight Michael Donadio who is coming off a strong campaign with Batavia -batting .274 with five home runs and 26 RBIs. Ricardo Cespedes comes to Clinton after appearing at three different levels in the Marlins organization in 2018, and Jerar Encarnacion rounds out the outfield with 10 home runs and 59 RBIs over his three year professional career.

On the mound, the LumberKings will feature seven members from the Marlins 2018 draft class - CJ Carter (29th round), Tyler Jones (26th round), Zach Wolf (18th round), Alex Vesia (17th round), Peyton Culbertson (8th round), Travis Neubeck (7th round), and Chris Vallimont (5th round). Four of the arms that will be available to Manager Mike Jacobs were with him last year in Batavia. Starters Humberto Meija, Alberto Guerrero, and Josh Roberson each posted ERA's that were sub 3.50 - while in the bullpen -Manuel Rodriguez owned a 1.06 ERA over 13 appearances. Rounding out the pitching staff lefty Sean Guenther, Dominican native George Soriano, and Travis Neubeck who went 2-1 with a 1.71 ERA in Greensboro in 2018.

The LumberKings open the 2019 season at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday on the road against the Kane County Cougars at Northwestern Medicine Field.
