Bangor Lumberjacks News Release

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks, the Northeast League's newest team, won the first game of the franchise's history, 2-1, against the Allentown Ambassadors at Bicentennial Park in Allentown, PA on Thursday night. Starter Jeff Sparks tossed 5 innings of shutout ball to pick up the win. Jeff struck out eight and walked just one.

The Jacks plated two runs, one on a single by outfielder Mo Blakeney, and another on an error by Ambassador shortstop Winter Adames, to go up 2-0 in the sixth. Allentown answered back with a home run by Vic Davila in the seventh, and although the Ambassadors threatened in each of the last three frames, they were unable to produce the game-tying run. Jacks centerfielder Mo Blakeney threw out the potential tying run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the Lumberjacks first win. Santiago Henry picked up the save for the Lumberjacks.

The Jacks series continues in Allentown over the weekend, before they head to Brockton for a game on Monday, and a pair in North Shore on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Lumberjacks will debut at home on Friday, May 30 at 7 PM. Tickets for opening night and all other nights are available by calling the Lumberjacks Ticket Office at (207) 947-1900. On game days, tickets may be purchased at the Lumberjacks store in the Bangor Mall until 3 PM. After 3 PM, they may be purchased at the Lumberjacks Ticket Office at Mahaney Diamond on the University of Maine campus.
