Adirondack Lumberjacks News Release

Glens Falls, NY- Outfielder Juan Tolentino has decided to retire the Adirondack Lumberjacks of the Northern League announced today. Tolentino joined the Jacks just before opening day.

Juan suffered an arm injury while playing for the Anaheim Angels highest affiliate, the Salt Lake (UT) Stingers, last year. Used primarily as a designated hitter because of his injury, Juan had hit just .087 with 4 RBI's so far this year.

Tolentino will travel to California to have surgery on his arm.

To replace Tolentino on the roster, the Lumberjacks have picked up INF/OF Lorenzo de la Cruz from the Allentown Ambassadors. While with Allentown in 1998, he hit .340 with 17 home runs and 85 RBI's. De la Cruz went to play in Mexico following his year in Allentown, but returned to the Northern League last season as a member of the Lincoln Saltdogs. In 49 at bats, de la Cruz hit .367 with 4 home runs and 12 RBI's.

"My hope is that Lorenzo will add some much needed punch to our starting line-up. He is a proven cleanup hitter that we desperately need," stated Jacks General Manager Curt Jacey.

De la Cruz is expected to join the team prior to Tuesday's doubleheader against his former team, Allentown. The first game begins at 5 PM.

The Lumberjacks invite all area schools to participate in the Second Annual School Day at East Field. Wednesday's game against the Allentown Ambassadors will begin at 11 AM. Tickets to area schools are free courtesy of Glens Falls Hospital, Edward Jones representative Carl Cedrone, Boston Scientific, and the Post Star.
