Ludtke's Third-Period Tallies Pushes Stars Past Bucs

Lincoln Stars News Release

The Lincoln Stars picked up the first win of the season when trailing after two periods, defeating the Des Moines Buccaneers, 3-2, on Friday night at Buccaneer Arena.

Lincoln (12-5) trailed 2-1 after two periods but Tanner Ludtke recorded his third multi-goal game with a pair of goals 4:22 apart in the third period. The Stars were previously 0-4 when behind after 40 minutes.

Ludtke's two-goal effort marked his third multi-goal game and the seventh by a Star this season. The Nebraska-Omaha commit has scored in each of the last three games and has found the back of the net four times in the last five games, totaling five goals in that span along with two assists.

"Tanner is just so consistent," Stars head coach Rocky Russo said. "You're going to get the same effort from him night in and night out. Inevitably he's going to come up with a big goal and he did that again tonight."

Lucas Massie defeated Des Moines (7-7-1-2) for the third time in as many games against the Buccaneers by stopping 26 shots for his fourth win overall. Friday night was also the Stars' third win in five one-goal games.

Dashel Oliver scored his first of the season for the game's first goal at 7:10 of the first period. The Stars won a defensive zone faceoff right out of the media timeout to set up the goal. Oliver brought the puck up right-wing side and his wrist shot from just inside the blue line was denied by goaltender Jan Korec but popped up over his shoulder and landed in the back of the net to give Lincoln a 1-0 lead.

Des Moines scored twice in the second period to take a lead into the third after Carter Batchelder evened it up at the 12:29 mark and former Star Christian Kocsis scored his second goal of the season vs Lincoln at 17:23 of the second.

Ludtke went to work in the third period, tallying 1:46 into the frame to even it up on a goal eerily similar to Oliver's. His shot from the slot struck Korec and again popped up and landed in the net for the equalizer. At the 6:08 mark Mason Marcellus passed a puck from the left faceoff circle off the boards behind the net and the puck bounced to Ludtke back-post side and he whacked it in for a power-play goal and his second game-winning goal of the season.

"I looked at the whole game going into the third and thought things were going well. We'd been playing well and getting a lot of chances but they just weren't going in. I talked to (Patrick Raftery) and (Wyatt Olson) and said "hey boys, let's stay with it." One one came, another came and sure enough they were there and it was pretty good."

The Stars wrap up a three-games-in-four days stretch on Saturday when they travel to Sioux Falls for the first time in the 2022-23 season. Lincoln's only previous game with the Stampede came on Sep. 30, a 3-2 loss in the Stars' only setback at the Ice Box in seven games on home ice. The puck drops at 6:05 p.m.
