NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (December 19) – Four members of the North Charleston Lowgators visited the Boys and Girls Club in downtown Charleston on Thursday afternoon.

Sedric Webber, Corey Benjamin, Tobe Carberry, and T.J. McKenzie talked to the kids about the importance of doing well in school and then showed them the proper way to go in for a lay-up and jump shot.

"I would not be here today talking to you if I didn't get an education and go to college," Webber told his young audience. "I grew up in the Bronx with six siblings and we had very little money. I learned that I couldn't hang out in the streets, and that I needed to study hard and practice in the gym."

The students then took the court as they learned the key fundamentals of shooting and passing. The Lowgators also continued the league-wide reading initiative as T.J. McKenzie read to a group of about 10 students ages six through nine.

The day's events were completed with a tasty meal of barbecued chicken, rice, and green beans provided by the Boys and Girls Club.

The Lowgators host the first-place Huntsville Flight on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
