December 19, 2002 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
Almost 40-percent of NBDL players are taking advantage of the league's Player Programs initiative to continue their college education. Directors of Player Programs Dr. Janice Hilliard and Kevin Carr are working with 31 NBDL players who are completing their undergraduate degrees or additional education beyond those degrees. Sixteen players are taking advantage of the program to do graduate work.
In addition, nine players and one assistant coach are enrolled in the league's online partnership program with Michigan State University to obtain a Business and Communications Skills Professional Certificate.
Make it Five
The Fayetteville Patriots won their fifth consecutive game by defeating Greenville, 87-78, at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville Wednesday night. The victory pulled the Patriots into a second-place tie with the Groove. Both have 8-6 records.
Double Shot of Tang
Columbus' Tang Hamilton extended his league-leading total of double-doubles to six with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the Riverdragons' 86-83 victory at North Charleston Wednesday night. The Mississippi State product leads the NBDL in rebounding at 9.1 per game.
Energy Efficient Barnes
Fayetteville's Matt Barnes made efficient use of his playing time in the Patriots' victory at Greenville Wednesday night, scoring 21 points and grabbing six rebounds in 23 minutes. The UCLA product was 3-of-6 from behind the three-point line.
Color Him Gray, Give Him a Hand
Greenville's Greg Gray and Donald Hand must have eaten the same pre-game meal Wednesday, because both recorded identical 17 point and five rebound nights in the Groove's loss to Fayetteville.
December Big for Benjamin
Corey Benjamin continued his torrid December pace by pouring in 26 points for North Charleston on Wednesday. Benjamin has scored 54 points in the last two games and is averaging 19.7 in the month of December.
Slump Over
North Charleston Tierre Brown broke out of a two-game shooting slump on Wednesday by connecting on 9-of-12 field goal attempts on the way to scoring 22 points. In the previous two games Brown had made just 3-of-15 from the floor.
No Games Today, Two on Friday
The NBDL stage is dark today, but there are two games Friday. League-leading Huntsville (9-5) is in North Charleston (7-8) to take on the Lowgators. Asheville (6-8) travels to the Mardi Gras Dome to meet Mobile (5-6).
