
Lowgators Hosting Open Tryouts

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (October 9, 2002) â The North Charleston Lowgators will hold open tryouts for the upcoming season Saturday, October 19, 2002 from 9 a.m. â 5 p.m. at Sterett Hall Gymnasium at the Old Charleston Naval Base. Players lucky enough to make it through the first round of cuts will be asked to return on Sunday, October 20. Tryouts are open to the first 100 players to register and will give athletes the unique opportunity to make a professional sports team's roster.
Players are asked to pre-register to participate in the tryout and a $50 registration fee is required. Participants must be 20 years old prior to the start of their first NBDL season. Lowgators heads coach Doug Marty and new assistant coach Kelvin Upshaw will conduct tryouts. Registration packets may also be picked up at the Lowgators office at the North Charleston Coliseum Monday-Friday from 9:00a.m. â 4:00p.m.
"Local tryouts are a unique showcase for the many talented players out there," said Lowgators Head Coach Doug Marty. "Participants have an excellent chance to prove their ability against the best competition and although making the team will not be easy, everyone will get a fair look."
Tryouts will be held in each of the eight NBDL cities during October. With league approval, up to three players from the tryouts will be offered the opportunity to attend training camps in November â with the distinct possibility of making the team. Prospective players should contact any or all of the eight NBDL teams for specific registration information about local tryout opportunities. The North Charleston Lowgators open the 2002-03 NBDL season Friday, November 15, 2002 on the road against the Mobile Revelers at the Mobile Civic Center. The Lowgators home opener is a rematch of last year's NBDL Finals on Sunday, November 17 against the defending champion Greenville Groove at the North Charleston Coliseum.
