Louisville City FC News Release

LOUISVILLE - Louisville City FC started the 2018 season on Saturday, March 17 with a 2-0 win over expansion side Nashville S.C. in front of 7,993 passionate supporters at Slugger Field.

An exciting opening period, forward Luke Spencer would be the first to test Nashville "keeper Matt Pickens just ten minutes into the game. Off a set piece from 30+ yards out, Spencer rose to meet the lofted delivery and powered a header on goal, though Pickens was in perfect position to make the save. Spencer and his teammates would create a few chances in the opening half, but the teams were scoreless at the break.

After creating enough to score in the first half, the "Boys in Purple" returned to the pitch in the second half with a fury and quickly upped their attack on the Nashville defense. Just before the hour mark, Spencer would find the goal they were searching for. Rising to meet a cross from McCabe, who was out left in a wide position, Spencer glanced the ball to the far side and watched as it bounced off the inside post and in. Continuing their front, the team added its second goal ten minutes later. This time, Spencer turned from scorer to provider, slipping in midfielder Oscar Jimenez, who rolled a ball in for McCabe to tap-in from two yards out.

Dominating Nashville for the majority of the second half, LouCity would see the match through and earn its first three points of the season. The team returns to Slugger Field next Saturday when it hosts North Carolina FC for another afternoon kickoff, against set for 3:00 P.M.
