Louisville City FC News Release

Louisville, KY (September 17, 2015) - In the 2015 regular season finale Louisville City FC (14-7-6, 48 points) and Saint Louis FC (7-11-9, 30 points) meet in the fourth installment of the Kings Cup. Louisville City needs a win to earn the right to host should they make the USL Championship game.

Louisville City won the first match between the first-year clubs on a chilly March 28th afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field. Magnus Rasmussen opened the scoring with a low strike in the first half. Charlie Adams put the game away after receiving a clever back heel from Guy Abend.

The teams then met twice in one-week, starting with one of the most thrilling matches of the season on May 24th in St. Louis. With Saint Louis leading 2-1, the game went into a long lightning delay. With a majority of the crowd being forced out by the inclement weather, the match restarted and Louisville quickly leveled things on Matt Fondy's second goal of the night. Saint Louis would take the lead on a penalty before Nate Polak slammed home the equalizer with just minutes remaining.

The following Saturday the teams would finish level once again. A Kadeem Dacres header gave Lou City the lead five minutes into the second half, but Saint Louis' Charles Renken received a long-pass and needed just one touch to tie the match. The 7,185 fans in attendance at Slugger Field saw Lou City come so close to finding the winning goal late in the match as a corner led to the ball banging off the post.

The supporter groups of both clubs got together well before the season started to form this rivalry that they titled the Kings Cup. With Louisville ahead 6-4 on aggregate, a City win, draw or loss by one or two would give them the Kings Cup Trophy.

Regardless of the outcome on Saturday Louisville will be hosting the Eastern Conference Semi-Final on Saturday, October 3rd at Louisville Slugger Field. The first home playoff match in Louisville City FC history will be undoubtedly the biggest match in the clubs history.
