Louisville City FC and Rochester Stay Undefeated After 1-1 Draw
April 16, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville, KY (April 16, 2015)- For the third time in three games Louisville City FC drew first blood and took a 1-0 lead into the the locker room. For the second straight time, they could not hang on for all three points and settled for a 1-1 draw with the Rochester Rhinos on Thursday night in front of 4,722 fans.
Louisville City FC took the lead in the 36th minute when Matt Fondy made a slick move inside the box and unselfishly gave it up to Juan Guzman who slotted past the Rochester keeper. It appeared like Lou City might be celebrating another home victory as Guzman and his teammates leapt into the stands to celebrate with the supporters. However, the second half would tell a different story.
Rochester went on the attack for most of the final 45 minutes. Earning several direct free kicks from just outside the penalty, the Rhinos put pressure on Louisville City FC's backline and goalkeeper Scott Goodwin until they finally broke through in the 68th minute of play.
After a Rochester free kick went straight into the wall, Lou City was unable to get a solid clearance off and Alex Dixon got behind the defense into space and snuck the ball just under the outstretched arms of Goodwin.
After the goal, neither team really threatened to add in a late winner, leaving both clubs unbeaten in 2015.
Louisville City FC will have a quick turn around and will travel to Pittsburgh to face-off with the Riverhounds. Kickoff for that match is at 3:00 PM EST.
Lou City returns home next Saturday for a 7:30 match-up with the Tulsa Roughnecks. Tickets are on-sale and can be purchased by visiting www.LouisvilleCityFC.com/tickets.
