
Louisiana Loses On The Road In Pensacola

LAFAYETTE, LA - The Louisiana IceGators (13-36) hit the road after having a week off and took on the Pensacola Ice Flyers (25-25). Pensacola entered the night fighting for their playoff positioning and the IceGators wanted to play spoiler. Tonight the IceGators fell a little short and lost 3-1.
The first period began with Pensacola attacking early. Louisiana opened the period with the first two shots on goal but Pensacola answered with six straight shots on goal. Both teams settled down and became more methodic in their offensive approaches half way through the first period. With 4:49 remaining in the period Pensacola's Erik Stoyanovich scored his 11th goal of the season and put the Ice Flyers up 1-0. Three minutes later Tyler Barr (PEN) was called for hooking. The IceGators were able to take advantage of the penalty more than a minute later. With 26 seconds left in the first period Ryan Fultz (LOU) tied the game with his 5th goal of the season.
The second period began with Stoyanovich and Tobias Karlsson (LOU) getting into a fight less than a minute into the period. Following the fireworks that opened the period, the Ice Flyers went on the attack. In the first 11 minutes of the period, Pensacola outshot the IceGators 9-1 but Mike Brown (LOU), IceGators' goalkeeper, turned all of the attempts away. In fact Brown was able to hold the Ice Flyers scoreless in the second period and had 17 saves.
The third period began with the two teams knotted at 1-1. Jason Hill (LOU) was called for holding 57 seconds into the final period. Thirty-two seconds later Pensacola took advantage and grabbed the lead 2-1 with Mark Hinz's (PEN) power play goal. The Ice Flyers kept putting the pressure on the IceGators, outshooting them 9-2 in the first 11 minutes. The IceGators finally began putting pressure on the ice Flyers with 4:52 left in the game. Louisiana had five shots on goal but were not able to put any past Ryan Scott (PEN), Ice Flyer's goalkeeper. With 2:03 left in the game, Pensacola added an insurance goal when Tyler Lyon scored his 4th goal of the season. Pensacola was able to waist away the final tw minutes and win 3-1.
"Tonight Pensacola was just hungry than we were," replied IceGators Head Coach Kevin Kaminski after falling on the road at Pensacola. "We opened the game well but just let the rest of the game slip away."
