Augusta RiverHawks News Release
The Augusta RiverHawks hit the road and used a huge third period to knock off the Huntsville Havoc 4-2 Saturday night in Huntsville, Alabama. The RiverHawks scored three goals in the third period, including the game-winner by Jason Dolgy with just under four minutes remaining in the contest, to give themselves the victory.
RiverHawks' goaltender Peter Skoggard continued his perfect run in the crease for Augusta, making 32 saves for his third win in three starts. He was backed up by Jon Olthuis who rejoined the RiverHawks Saturday after being returned from the Dayton Gems of the Central Hockey League.
The win pulls the RiverHawks into a tie for second place in the Southern Professional Hockey League standings with the Havoc as both teams have 54 points, just four back of the first-place Mississippi Surge and four points up on the fourth-place Pensacola Ice Flyers.
The two teams swapped goals in the first period. It was the visiting RiverHawks who opened the scoring, as Egor Mironov scored his team-leading 21st of the season. The lead lasted until late in the period, when Havoc tough-guy Ryan Hand scored his first of the season to tie the affair.
The Havoc would take the lead with the only goal scored in the second period. Diminutive scorer Ryan Kretzer converted a chance generated by Kyle Laughlin and Omar Pacha to put their club up by a goal.
The third period was all RiverHawks, beginning with a goal just three minutes and fifty seconds in, as Travis Dunstall would score unassisted to tie the game. Dolgy's game winning goal would follow late in the period, and captain Matt Auffrey would ice the game with an empty-net goal of his own.
The RiverHawks are back in action at the James Brown Arena Friday, March 18th as they face the Knoxville Ice Bears. The puck drops at 7:30pm.
