Louis Signs with Edmonton of CFL

WORCESTER, MA - Former Massachusetts Pirates defensive lineman Claudell Louis has signed with the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League. In seven games with the Pirates this season, Louis had three sacks which still leads the team. His 5.5 tackles for a loss currently ranks second among Pirates players. The former 6'4", 290 lb. product of Fresno State, had 16 tackles (six solo), one pass broken up and an interception.

Louis is no stranger to the CFL. In 2017 he went to camp with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. In 2018 he joined the British Columbia Lions, where he played two seasons. As a rookie he appeared in 11 games making 31 tackles with two sacks and was the Lions' finalist for CFL Most Outstanding Rookie. In 2021 Louis joined the Lions coaching staff as a defensive assistant.

His professional career began in 2016 when he signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent. That same year he played in preseason games with the Minnesota Vikings.

Louis, who was born in Haiti, came to the United States in 2001, settling in Boynton Beach, FL. He began his football journey at the junior college level at the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, CA. After two seasons he transferred to Fresno State. From 2013 through 2015 he played in 26 games making 57 tackles with eight for a loss and 5.5 sacks. He also defended one pass, recovered a fumble and blocked one kick. In his senior season he made 41 tackles, had five sacks and 6.5 tackles for a loss and received Honorable Mention honors on the All-Mountain West team.
