Leesburg, VA. - Loudoun United FC announced today the acquisition of Belgian forward Jonathan Benteke.
"Jonathan is a talented attacker that is clinical around goal," Ryan Martin, Loudoun United FC Head Coach, said. "He brings good size and dominates the aerial game. With his experience in Europe, he is ready to prove himself in the US."
Benteke joins the Red-and-White after spending a season with FC Wegberg-Beeck in the German fourth tier. The 6-foot-1-inch forward scored eight goals in 29 appearances across all competitions with the German side in the 2021-'22 season.
The Belgian started his career with the Standard Liège Academy, a club that has cultivated the talents of Christian Benteke, Michy Batshuayi, Axel Witsel, and Thomas Meunier. In 2013, Benteke joined CS Visé where he made his professional debut in the Belgian Second Division. In 20 appearances with the Belgian side, Benteke scored two goals. His first professional goal came in the 82nd minute against KAS Eupen on Oct. 26, 2013, in league play.
The 27-year-old striker spent time in the English Premier League with Crystal Palace. Benteke joined the club on Sept. 1, 2016, and just nine days later, made his English Premier League debut in a 2-1 win against Middlesbrough.
After departing Palace, Benteke had stints with Omonia Nicosia, Oldham Athletic, Alemannia Aachen, and URSL Visé. In his professional career, Benteke has scored 22 goals and recorded an assist in 109 appearances with various clubs.
