LouCity to Host Mexico's Atlante FC in July 15 Friendly
June 7, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville City FC will welcome international competition to Lynn Family Stadium for the second time when hosting Mexican club Atlante FC for a friendly kicking off at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 15.
Atlante currently competes in the second-division Liga de Expansión MX, winning titles in 2021 and 2022. The Mexico City-based club's origins date back to 1916, and Atlante factored internationally as recently as 2009 when earning a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The LouCity-Atlante matchup will double as a showcase of authentic Mexican culture and cuisine at Lynn Family Stadium. Live music will feature in the Fan Zone, which opens at 6:30 p.m. at the stadium's waterfront/open end.
"We're excited both about the sporting challenge of facing Atlante and the opportunity to bring in a team that will be popular with our Hispanic community," said LouCity's club president, James O'Connor. "There will be something for everyone at this game, and we look forward to a unique atmosphere at Lynn Family Stadium."
Season ticket members will receive emailed communication to reserve their regular tickets. Those who bought tickets to LouCity's first international friendly - set for June 21 against Germany's FC Kaiserslautern - are eligible for a discount to the Atlante game.
The general public can purchase starting immediately by visiting LouCity.com/tickets, calling (502) LOU-CITY or via SeatGeek. Prices start at just $12.
"We're looking forward to welcoming Atlante to Lynn Family Stadium," said LouCity coach Danny Cruz. "This is another opportunity for us to expose ourself to a new opponent and style of play. I firmly believe these games give us another opportunity to improve while having to solve problems on the field that we may not have seen before.
"I am excited that we were able to put this game together for our players and the city of Louisville."
LouCity-Atlante will air locally on MyTV 58 and ESPN Louisville's 680/105.7. TV. National streaming plans are pending.
