Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades nine-game winning streak came to an end, falling 9-4 to the Greenville Drive on Wednesday afternoon at Dutchess Stadium.

In the second game of his MLB rehab assignment, Ben Rortvedt finished 1-for-4 with a single, a walk, and two runs scored, playing all nine innings as the designated hitter.

Greenville jumped on Hudson Valley starter Blas Castaño immediately. Niko Kavadas launched a two-run homer in the top of the first inning to give the Drive a 2-0 lead.

In the following frame, Alex Erro knocked an RBI single, Nick Decker reached on an error to bring home another, and Matthew Lugo lifted a sacrifice fly to extend the margin to 5-0.

In the bottom of the second, Spencer Henson crushed a solo homer off Drive starter Wyatt Olds to put the Renegades on the board.

Greenville blew it open in the top of the fourth. Nicholas Northcut skied his 25th home run of the season, a two-run blast to center, and Jaxx Groshans followed with an RBI double to lengthen the lead to 8-1.

Castaño (3-7) lasted four innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits, walking three and striking out five.

In the bottom of fifth, Tyler Hardman demolished a two-run homer to trim the deficit to 8-3. The home run was Hardman's team-leading 12th of the season.

The Renegades generated some momentum in the bottom of the seventh. Rortvedt and Hardman walked and James Nelson singled, allowing Rortvedt to score on a throwing error to pull Hudson Valley within four.

Phillip Sikes added insurance for the Drive in the top of the ninth, unloading a solo homer to left off Jhonatan Muñoz to create a 9-4 cushion.

The Hudson Valley bullpen tandem of Carlos Gomez, Nelvin Correa, and Jhonatan Muñoz combined for five excellent innings, allowing only one run on four hits, walking two and striking out five.

Hudson Valley continues its series with Greenville Thursday night at Dutchess Stadium. RHP Beck Way (4-4, 3.88) makes the start for the Renegades, while the Drive tab RHP Ryan Zeferjahn (2-2, 5.45). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage begins on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45. For tickets and more information, visit www.hvrenegades.com.
