Galaxy Team Notes

DAZZLING DEBUTS: Newly acquired forward Edson Buddle wasted little time in giving his new home fans a reason to cheer as he scored his first-ever goal in a Galaxy uniform in the 25th minute of the 3-2 win over Real Salt Lake. Buddle, who was acquired from Toronto FC on Wednesday, got on the end of a long ball out of the back from Abel Xavier and was able to hit a right-footed shot just inside the far post to give LA a 2-1 advantage.

Before Buddle, the last Galaxy player to score on his debut for the club was Santino Quaranta who scored the game-winner just 11 minutes after entering the Galaxy's 1-0 win over Houston on August 9, 2006.

OPENING THE SCORING BOOKS: Both Buddle and fellow forward Nate Jaqua scored their first regular season goal in a Galaxy uniform on Sunday. The last time that two Galaxy players had scored their first-ever goal for the club in the same game was on April 3, 2004 when Andreas Herzog and Jovan Kirovski scored in the victory over the New England Revolution.

CENTER BACKS CHIP IN: While Buddle and Jaqua, as well as Cobi Jones, took care of the goalscoring, the central defense pairing of Abel Xavier and Kyle Veris played a big role in setting up the Galaxy goals. Both Veris, who was making his third start of the year, and Xavier, who was making his MLS debut, were credited with assists in Sunday's win. The assists were the first of their MLS career for both players and they became the first LA center backs to collect an assist since Troy Roberts earned the first assist of his MLS career in a 2-0 win over FC Dallas on August 20, 2006.

GALAXY INTERNATIONALS TO BATTLE: The three Galaxy players that are competing in the CONCACAF Gold Cup will meet on Thursday night for a spot in the final when Canada takes on the United States. Ante Jazic and Kevin Harmse have helped Canada reach the semifinals while Landon Donovan has scored twice to help the defending champion U.S. team get back to this stage of the competition. With his two goals, Donovan now has 32 for his National Team career, placing him just two behind the all-time leading scorer Eric Wynalda.

The game between the United States and Canada can be seen live on Fox Soccer Channel and Telefutura, starting at 4 p.m.

On Saturday against the Crew, the Galaxy are expected to have the players from which ever team loses Thursday's semifinal available for selection.

GALAXY HEAD TO CHILDRENS HOSPITAL: The Los Angeles Galaxy will be brightening the day of patients at Children's Hospital Los Angeles at 2pm on Tuesday, June 19. Galaxy players and coaches will be signing autographs, taking pictures and giving out Galaxy memorabilia to the hospital's young patients.

ALUMNI GAME RETURNS ON JUNE 23: The Los Angeles Galaxy will hold their annual alumni game on Saturday, June 23 at The Home Depot Center, at 5:15 prior to the start of the Galaxy's regular season match against the Columbus Crew. Headlining the list of former Galaxy greats is Mauricio Cienfuegos, Paul Caligiuri, Robin Fraser, Harut Karapetyan, Jorge Salcedo and of course the club's current President and General Manager Alexi Lalas.
