Los Angeles Football Club Forward Carlos Vela Voted MLS Player of the Month Presented by EA SPORTS

NEW YORK - Los Angeles Football Club forward Carlos Vela was voted the MLS Player of the Month presented by EA SPORTS ¢ by members of the media for the month of March of the 2019 MLS season.
As part of every MLS Player of the Month award this season, EA SPORTS FIFA 19 will release a special FUT item to honor the winning player, this month recognizing Vela for this tremendous March performance. Vela can be unlocked via a special Squad Building Challenge now live in FIFA 19 Ultimate Team.
Vela finished the opening month of the season with an MLS-leading six goals over five matches, while his three assists in March also tied for the most in the league. After last weekend's match, Vela continues to pace the league with seven goals scored and four assists. LAFC currently maintains a six-game unbeaten streak and tops MLS with 16 points (5-0-1 overall record). The club's 19 goals scored are the most in league history over a team's first six regular season matches.
Soundbytes of Vela reflecting on the award and his performance can be found here.Following a 2-1 LAFC victory over Sporting Kansas City in the opening week of the season, Vela helped LAFC defeat the Portland Timbers 4-1 at home on March 10. Vela finished the match with a goal and two assists, the third multi-assist match of his MLS career.
The Mexico National Team star then notched a brace in a 2-2 March 17 draw at New York City FC with a finish in the run of play (watch goal) and a penalty kick goal. LAFC continued its winning ways a week later with a 2-1 March 23 home victory over Real Salt Lake.
Vela rounded out his dominant March by notching his first career MLS hat trick to go along with an assist in a 5-0 road victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on March 30. The two-time FIFA World Cup veteran scored goals off a tap in, a finish after fighting off a defender in the box (watch goal), and a stunning long-range curler.
LAFC returns to action on Saturday, April 13 when hosting FC Cincinnati at Banc of California Stadium (10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN+).
MLS Player of the Month presented by EA SPORTS is voted upon by a panel of select national media members in a process conducted by MLS Communications.
