Great Lakes Loons News Release

The Great Lakes Loons have added two more awards to their trophy case, thanks to the Loons production team. The two most recent awards are the IDEA Gold Matrix Award for Best Overall Video Display in Minor League Sports and a bronze Telly award for their 2009 player introduction video, played prior to player introductions at Loons' home games."

The Golden Matrix Awards are presented by the Information Display and Entertainment Association, whose members consist of the scoreboard, video and entertainment staffs from the National Football League, National Basketball Association, National Hockey League, Major League Soccer, Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball, Minor League Hockey and collegiate athletics. The awards ceremony is held as part the annual IDEA conference. The conference serves as an opportunity for video production professionals in the sports entertainment industry to discuss ideas and techniques. Loons Assistant General Manager of Production and Entertainment, Chris Lones, attended the conference held in Tampa, FL.

By winning the Golden Matrix Award for Best Overall Video Display in Minor League Sports, the Loons had the opportunity to compete for the Best Overall Display in all of professional sports. The Best Overall Display Award was awarded to the Miami Heat, but being nominated alongside the big league teams was exciting nonetheless.

"It was exciting to be on the stage with the Miami Heat, Houston Astros, and Chicago Blackhawks," said Lones. "Although we didn't win the Overall Award, I had multiple people from the big league teams seek me out after the ceremony to compliment us on the quality of our show. It was great to receive such positive feedback from our peers at the big league level."

The Loons were also nominated for Best Fan Interactive Feature for the Bud Light Celebrity Trivia Promotion. The award ultimately went to the Houston Astros, although Lones proudly points out that the Loons beat out nine other Major League teams just to be nominated. The crowd at the awards ceremony gave the Loons one unofficial piece of recognition.

"Everyone went nuts for Rall E. Camel," Lones said. "As I walked onstage to accept our award, the crowd started making the camel noise."

The Loons production staff was proud to learn the Loons' 2009 player introduction video also received a bronze Telly award. The Telly Awards honor the best local and regional television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions and work created for the web. This was the second Loons' video to receive a Telly award, the first having come for the 2008 All-Star Game introduction video.

Both videos were created by Framework Creative Media, a Midland-based video production company. Specializing in motion graphic design and video editing, Framework Creative Media has worked with the Loons since 2007 and also counts Dow Chemical and many other Great Lakes Bay Region businesses as clients.

"Over the years I have really enjoyed working with the Great Lakes Loons. I've always admired the way their staff makes me feel like part of the team rather than just a contractor," said Steve Frame, owner of Frameworks Creative Media. "Having produced commercials and videos for them since 2007, I've enjoyed being part of the development of the Loons brand. It's been gratifying to watch their image grow the past three seasons. The Telly Awards that we have won the past two years are just another indication that our message is working."

The Great Lakes Loons are the fourth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
