Great Lakes Loons News Release
The Great Lakes Loons, in partnership with MidMichigan Health, have announced a series of six Loons' home games during the 2009 season paying tribute to the 25th anniversary of the Detroit Tigers' 1984 World Championship.
As a part of the Loons' celebration of the 1984 Tigers, three members of the team are schedule to appear at Dow Diamond and meet with Loons fans. Those players are pitchers Dan Petry (June 18), Milt Wilcox (July 29) and 1984 American League Cy Young award and MVP winner Willie Hernandez (August 29).
In addition, the Loons are offering a three-game bobblehead series featuring 1984 Tigers players Kirk Gibson (May 27), Jack Morris (July 16) and Chet Lemon (August 10).
The Tigers Championship Mini-Plan ticket package is available now through the Loons' ticket office. With the package, fans get box seats to six Loons' home games, three bobblehead giveaways and the opportunity to meet members of the 1984 Tigers team.
"The 1984 Tigers were such a memorable team for fans in Michigan - from their amazing 35-5 start to their exciting five-game series win over the Padres," said Chris Mundhenk, Loons assistant general manager for marketing and promotions. "We wanted to honor the '84 team, both in person and with our bobblehead series."
All player appearances and scheduled bobblehead nights have been confirmed but are subject to change. As part of the series, MidMichigan Health will provide fans with health and wellness-themed fairs at each of the six games, providing important information on topics such as obesity, sun safety, stroke awareness, and more.
"We are delighted to partner with the Great Lakes Loons on the Tigers series that certainly will draw families from not only the region, but from throughout the state," said Richard M. Reynolds, president of MidMichigan Health. "The events that the Great Lakes Loons offer fans are second-to-none. Events such as these reinforce how honored we are to be the exclusive health care provider for the Great Lakes Loons."
Ticket packages - including the Tigers' Championship Mini-Plan - and group outings currently are available by calling 989-837-BALL. The Loons' full 2009 promotional schedule will be released soon. Single game tickets for the Loons' 2009 season go on sale March 1.
