Lake County Captains News Release
(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains (52-44) surrendered five dingers to the Great Lakes Loons (59-39) in a 14-4 defeat on a cloudy Wednesday evening at Classic Park.
Every member of the Loons lineup reached base at least once and struck out just once, a season-best.
The Loons posted six runs in the first three innings, highlighted by three home runs. Eddys Leonard had a leadoff first-pitch homer, Aldrich DeJongh smacked a two-run shot in the second and Jose Ramos blasted a ball to deep center field in the third. Rodney Boone, Lake County's starter lone scoreless inning was a 1-2-3 fourth.
Lake County cut it to a three-run game in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Petey Halpin doubled to deep right, and then Gabriel Rodriguez lined a double down the left field line to put the Captains on the board. An error at first base, plated Rodriguez and then the third double of the inning came from Mike Amditis to make the score 6-3.
The fifth inning saw Great Lakes jump back ahead by five with a two-run homer from Luis Diaz. Joe Naranjo brought Lake County their fourth run with a line drive home over the right-center field wall. Naranjo now has 13 this season.
Five runs in the seventh distanced the Loons. A grand slam from Jorbit Vivas following two walks and an error made it 13-4.
The Captains left four on base and seven in total. Petey Halpin and Angel Martinez both had multi-hit games, Halpin with three and Martinez with two.
Tomorrow Thursday, August 4 will be game three between Great Lakes and Lake County. It is Thirsty Thursday featuring half-priced Modelos and is also 80s night.
