Cedar Rapids, IA - Kernels first baseman Seth Gray went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI but the pitching staff faltered as Cedar Rapids fell 9-5 to the Beloit Sky Carp on Wednesday afternoon. Yunior Severino provided a 2-for-4 day at the plate, scoring a run and doubling home another. The Kernels fall to 59-39, 16-16 in the second half.

Trailing 3-0 entering the home half of the second, Jake Rucker was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame then moved to second on a passed ball. Gray promptly plated him with an RBI single to cut the deficit to two. The two sides traded runs in the third as Kyler Fedko singled, stole second and scored on Severino's double skipped up the first base line.

Beloit opened up the game in the middle innings, taking an 8-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Cedar Rapids loaded the bases for Gray as Soularie was hit by a pitch then Severino and Rucker rapped back-to-back singles. Gray collected his third hit of the night with a ringing three-run double off the top of the wall in left-center.

The Sky Carp added another run in the ninth, holding on for the 9-5 final.

Game three of the series is set for 6:35 p.m. CT on Thursday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
