Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lookouts continued their recent trend of capturing wins with late-inning rallies in a 4-2 win over the Birmingham Barons in Saturday night action at AT&T Field.
With two outs already registered, the Barons were able to muster the first rally of the game in the second frame. Fernando Cortez started off with a walk and advanced to third on a Jim Gallagher single and subsequent throwing error by shortstop Dee Gordon. Christian Marrero then ripped a double to plate Cortez. Lookouts starting pitcher Chris Withrow continued to labor through the inning by walking Cole Armstrong to load the bases. The struggles continued, as Withrow proceeded to walk Tyler Kuhn to give the Barons their second run of the inning. The bleeding hemorrhaged when Withrow was able to strike out John Shelby III to end the inning.
The Lookouts finally entered the scoreboard in the sixth. Trayvon Robinson hit a one-out single to set the stage. After swiping second base, Robinson made his way home on an RBI double from Corey Smith.
A big seventh inning turned the tide of the game in favor of the Lookouts. Kyle Russell led off by reaching first on a throwing error by shortstop Fernando Cortez. After two quick outs were recorded, which resulted in Russell advancing to second, Jaime Pedroza tripled off of Richard Brooks (0-3) to tie up the score. Dee Gordon then doubled to give the Lookouts the lead. Robinson followed with an infield single to plate the speedy Gordon, who caught the Barons' defense sleeping on the play.
Kenley Jansen was able to slam the door on the Barons in the ninth to pick up his fifth save of the season for the Lookouts.
Jon Huber (1-1), who pitched 1.2 shutout innings in relief, was credited with the win. The Chattanooga Lookouts and Birmingham Barons will wrap up their six-game series at 2:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
