Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - J.T. Wise and C.J. Retherford combined for five hits, three runs, and two RBI to lead the Lookouts to a rain-shortened 6-4 victory over the Mississippi Braves in Sunday afternoon action at AT&T Field.
After three innings of offensive futility, Mississippi broke the ice in the fourth with a run on a Phillip Gosselin RBI single; however, the Lookouts countered with two runs in the bottom portion of the inning. Wise led off with a single and scored on a subsequent Blake Smith double. After a Jake Lemmerman walk, Retherford came through with a single to bring home Smith.
Lookouts starting pitcher Allen Webster encountered some control problems in the fifth frame and proceeded to walk Joe Leonard with the bases loaded to tie up the score, 2-2.
The M-Braves momentarily took the lead in the top of the sixth on a Todd Cunningham RBI double, but the Lookouts countered with three runs in the bottom of sixth. Luis Nunez entered the game as a pinch hitter with the bases loaded and came through in the clutch with a solid single off of reliever Jose Lugo (3-3) to plate two runners. Rafael Ynoa followed with a double to left to bring home Nunez.
Both teams cancelled each other out in the seventh inning by both plating a single run. Matthew Kennelly hit a one-out double for Mississippi and eventually scored on a ground out from Leonard. After a rain delay in the middle of the seventh, the game resumed, and Retherford plated Wise on an RBI single in the bottom portion of the inning.
The rain returned heavier than ever at the end of the seventh, and, as a result, the game was officially called.
Eric Eadington (1-0), who recorded the final out of the sixth inning via strikeout, was credited with the win for the Lookouts.
The Chattanooga Lookouts and Mississippi Braves will continue their five-game series at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
