Lookouts Defeat Biscuits, 7-4

Montgomery now half-game out of first in North Division

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Biscuits (34-27) loss to the Chattanooga Lookouts (34-27) for the sixth time in seven games, 7-4, to fall out of first place Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Benton Moss (0-1) was solid through five innings in his Double-A debut, but loaded the bases in the sixth, before handing the reigns to Jordan Harrison, who surrendered a bases clearing RBI-triple to Ryan Walker to put the game out of reach. Moss finished allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking two in the loss.

Montgomery got on the board early thanks to Granden Goetzman's RBI-double in the bottom of the first inning off Chattanooga starter, Fernando Romero (5-5). The game would remain 2-0 until Dan Rohlfing stepped up in the second and swatted an RBI-single to left to make it 2-1.

Romero would retire 11 of the next 17 Biscuits he faced between the second and fifth innings before the Lookouts blew the game wide open in the sixth. Jonathan Rodriguez led off with a base hit, and then Dan Gamache singled as well, before Ryan Strausborger drew a walk to load the bases. TJ white belted an RBI-single to center, and a few batters later Walker hit a three-run triple to right. Nick Gordon would spank an RBI-double to put the Lookouts up for good.

Relievers Jordan Harrison and Brad Schreiber each tossed two innings, giving up a combined three runs on seven hits while striking out three over four innings. White launched an RBI-double off Schreiber in the ninth for Chattanooga, but the Biscuits wouldn't go away without putting up a fight.

Nick Ciuffo led off the bottom of the ninth with a double, and then a few batters later Braxton Lee drew a walk and Joe McCarthy drew one as well to load the bases. Then Cade Gotta stepped in and reached base on a throwing error by Lookouts catcher Dan Rohlfing, that allowed Ciuffo and Lee to score and cut the lead to three.

Andrew Velazquez 12-game hit streak came to an end. He finished 1-5 with four strikeouts.

Montgomery is now five and seven against Chattanooga in 11 games this season. They are a half-game behind Tennessee for first in the North Division, and will look to close the gap, when right-hander Greg Harris (3-4) takes the mound against southpaw Stephen Gonsalves (1-2) Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. The game is set to begin at 6:35 PM.
