
Lookouts Bounce BayBears in Series Opener

In their stretch run to the playoffs, every game becoming crucial for the BayBears, and they fell short to the Chattanooga Lookouts in a 7-3 loss on Tuesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium to begin their final regular season home series.
Ryan Wheeler put the BayBears (71-59, 35-27) on top in the bottom of the fourth with a double off the wall in right field to bring home Bryan Byrne. It was the only earned run surrendered by Chris Withrow (4-8) in his six innings of work as he picked up his first win since June 19.
Wade Miley was sharp for the BayBears as he scattered five hits in five scoreless innings while matching a season-high with eight strikeouts. He was replaced in the sixth by Bryan Henry (6-4), who retired the first man he faced but nobody else.
Jerry Sands cracked a home run to start the Chattanooga (64-69, 31-33) rally, tying the game at 1-1. Eddy Perez singled while Kyle Russell walked and Pedro Baez singled to load the bases. Jaime Pedroza broke the tie with a two-run single. Two batters later, Withrow doubled home a pair with a shot off the left-field fence.
The BayBears mustered up a brief comeback attempt with a run in the sixth and another in the seventh. Konrad Schmidt tripled home Byrne in the sixth inning, after Byrne reached on an error by Pedroza. Collin Cowgill ripped his 16th home run off Javier Solano in the seventh.
Chattanooga pulled away with a pair of unearned runs off Roque Mercedes in the eighth. It was an error by Mercedes that opened the door for the Lookouts with Alex Garabedian and Dee Gordon each singling home a run.
Jacksonville and Montgomery were both victorious on Tuesday which dropped the BayBears to a game behind the Suns for first place in the South Division while their wild card lead over the Biscuits has shrunk to two games with just seven to play.
The BayBears will take on the Lookouts in game two of their three-game set on Wednesday night at 7:05.
