Jaxx Open Final Homestand With 7-2 Win

After being swept over the weekend by Montgomery, the Diamond Jaxx (29-35) bounced back to beat the M-Braves (29-34) at Pringles Park Tuesday night, 7-2. The Jaxx jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and never looked back. The win by West Tenn reduces the magic number to make the postseason down to only three. The Diamond Jaxx lead Huntsville and Chattanooga in the wildcard standings by four games, with six to play.

Carlos Peguero was 2-for-4 for the Jaxx and drove in two runs, while scoring two. Alex Liddi was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Liddi now again leads the Southern League with 87 RBI's this season. Leury Bonilla drove in two runs and Scott Savastano hit a homer on Tuesday for the Jaxx. Dan Nelson led the Braves by going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Jarrett Grube (4-5) earned his fourth win of the season by tossing six innings and allowing just one run on three hits. Grube struck out one and walked none in the outing. It was his first win since August 11th. Tim Gustafson (4-3) suffered the loss for the M-Braves despite retiring 13 Jaxx in a row and one point. Gustafson surrendered six runs on six hits in six innings.

The Jaxx jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Tuesday night by posting four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Alex Liddi brought in Matt Lawson with a single to go up 1-0. Carlos Peguero drove in Alex Liddi and Johan Limonta with a single and then Leury Bonilla doubled in the Jaxx fourth run of the inning. West Tenn left the first on top 4-0.

Christian Colonel tripled to left opening the top of the second and scored on an RBI groundout from Michael Daniel. The run cut the Jaxx lead to 4-1.

Scott Savastano homered to lead off the bottom of the third inning. Savastano's fifth homerun of the season extended the Jaxx lead to 5-1.

Carlos Peguero snapped Tim Gustafson's 13 in a row retired streak in the bottom of the sixth with a triple. Leury Bonilla followed with a sacrifice fly to center, giving the Jaxx a 6-1 cushion.

In the top of the eighth inning the Braves got a RBI single from Yasser Gomez. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Scott Savastano came in to score on the third error of the game for Missisippi. After eight innings the Jaxx had a 7-2 advantage heading into the ninth.

The Jaxx and Braves play the middle game of the three-game series at 12:05 on Wednesday at Pringles Park. LHP Jimmy Gilheeney (0-1, 9.64) starts for the Jaxx on Wednesday against RHP JJ Hoover (0-1, 7.71) for Mississippi.
