Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

The bats went into the deep freeze for the Chattanooga Lookouts Friday night.

The Lookouts, hoping to take four of five games from the visiting Birmingham Barons, were instead held to five singles in a 3-0 loss at AT&T Field in the series finale. Barons right-hander Stephen McCray and three relievers handled the Lookouts in short order before a well-bundled crowd of 3,461 that was awaiting post-game fireworks. Anyone present hoping for anything sooner was sorely disappointed.

For much of the night, McCray held a one-run lead, and for just about all of that time, the lead in was jeopardy. The Lookouts stranded five baserunners over the first four innings, but a Barons double play in the fourth helped take the pressure off.

Birmingham got that lead in the second, a double by Brandon Short setting the table for Michael Blanke to drive him in with two out. Otherwise, Lookouts starter Onelki Garcia was in control, allowing only four hits but walking three in his five innings.

The Barons added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth, Dan Black and Cody Puckett doing the RBI honors.

The Lookouts (6-9) take the long drive to Jacksonville tonight with a 7:05 first pitch awaiting them. But three of the five-game series will be day games with a different starting time each night.
