CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced the 2010 Opening Day roster for the Chattanooga Lookouts. The team consists of 13 position players and 13 pitchers with C Alex Garabedian and LHP David Pfeiffer beginning the season on the disabled list. Listed below are a series of facts concerning the 2010 Opening Day roster.
OF Trayvon Robinson, RP Javy Guerra, and C Lucas May are on the Dodgers' 40-man roster.
SS Dee Gordon (73), INF/OF Elian Herrera (43), INF Jaime Pedroza (36), and OF Trayvon Robinson (47) each swiped over 35 bases last season. In 1984, Lookout Donnell Nixson stole 102 bases to establish a franchise and Southern League record.
In 99 games for Inland Empire last season, INF/OF Elian Herrera stole 43 bases. In 339 prior games in his professional career, he stole only 59.
SS Dee Gordon (#1), LHP Chris Withrow (#2), OF Andrew Lambo (#7), OF Trayvon Robinson (#9), RHP Javy Guerra (#16), C Lucas May (#17), OF Scott Van Slyke (#19), and OF Tommy Giles (#28) all crack Baseball America's Top 30 Prospects list for the Los Angeles Dodgers. For Baseball America's "Best Tools" section, Dee Gordon is listed superlatively for Best Hitter for Average, Fastest Baserunner, Best Athlete, and Best Defensive Infielder. OF Scott Van Slyke ranks as the Best Defensive Outfielder for the organization.
Of the 10 infielders and outfielders on the roster, only two of whom hit strictly right-handed. There are four switch-hitters on the roster.
The projected starting rotation consists of LHP Chris Withrow, LHP Alberto Bastardo, RHP Mario Alvarez, LHP John Koronka, and RHP Jesus Castillo. All of whom have played for the Lookouts prior to this season.
Based on the projected rotation, LHP James Adkins looks to be the only left-handed option out of the bullpen on Opening Day. As mentioned above, LHP David Pfeiffer will begin the season on the DL.
15 players have played for the Lookouts before this season. SP John Koronka pitched for the Lookouts as a member of the Reds organization from 2001-03.

INF Corey Smith, who was a first-round selection for the Cleveland Indians in 2000, played in the Southern League in 2005 and 2006 for Mobile and Birmingham, respectively. He was the #1 prospect for the Cleveland Indians in 2002 per Baseball America.
OF Scott Van Slyke and SS Dee Gordon are the respective sons of former Major League All-Stars OF Andy Van Slyke and RHP Tom Gordon.
LHP Chris Withrow (4/1/89) is the youngest player on the roster, while LHP John Koronka (7/3/80) is the senior statesman of the team. The median year of birth for the team is 1985.
In terms of players' place of residence, Florida tops the list with five, while Texas (all pitchers) and California (all hitters) trail behind with four apiece. With three players, Venezuela is the second most represented country (behind the United States) on the roster.
Manager Carlos Subero guided the Birmingham Barons to a 74-63 and Southern League playoff berth in 2008. During that season, Birmingham was second to last in the league in sacrifices, last offensively in walks and obp, but 1st in least amount of strikeouts (offensively) and runners left on base. Birmingham was t-3rd in stolen base attempts, and second in caught stealing. In 2009, Subero coached Inland Empire (A+ Dodgers), where the team was 1st in stolen bases and caught stealing, while second on least amount of runners left on base.
