CHATTANOOGA, TN - In a game that began on Thursday, but ended on Friday, the Diamond Jaxx (18-22) beat the Chattanooga Lookouts (17-22) at AT&T Field, 8-2. After a 1 hour and 35 minute rain delay, the Jaxx won their third straight over the Lookouts. The Jaxx win the series and improve to 10-4 against the Lookouts this season and 7-1 at AT&T Field. The Jaxx jump over Chattanooga in the standings, but remain six games back of Tennessee in the North Division race.
Brandon Haveman collected his second straight three-hit night, finishing 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Haveman is now 7-for-13 in the series against the Lookouts. Matt Lawson, Guillermo Quiroz and Johan Limonta finished with two hits each in the 3 hour 37 minute marathon game. Dee Gordon was 3-for-4 with a RBI to lead the way for Chattanooga.
Steven Richard (1-0) earned his first Double-A victory by working three scoreless frames for the Jaxx in relief. Richard struck out four in the outing. Steven Hensley, the Jaxx starter lasted just 1.2 innings in his shortest outing the season. Hensley walked six and surrendered two runs. Chris Withrow (3-8) suffered the loss for Chattanooga.
The Diamond Jaxx scored for the first time Thursday and for the third straight day. Alex Liddi plated Brandon Haveman with a single and Johan Limonta doubled in Liddi to make it 2-0 D-Jaxx. Limonta now has 32 doubles this season.
Leury Bonilla singled off the left field wall scoring Scott Savastano from second base. The Jaxx went ahead in the second inning 3-0 over Chattanooga.
Steven Hensley threw 48 pitches in the bottom of the second inning and walked five Lookouts hitters. One run scored on a passed ball and the other came across an RBI base hit by Dee Gordon. The Jaxx lead was cut to 3-2.
The Jaxx scored two more runs in the top of the third inning went up 5-2 over Chattanooga. Guillermo Quiroz belted an RBI double scoring Alex Liddi. Nate Tenbrink knocked in Johan Limonta with an RBI groundout in the inning.
Johan Limonta and Guillermo Quiroz delivered back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the seventh inning and the D-Jaxx extended their lead to 7-2. Each RBI was their second of the game. The Jaxx added one more run in the eighth and the Lookouts plated a run in the ninth to make 8-3 your final.
The Lookouts and Jaxx wrap up the series on Friday night at 6:15 CDT at AT&T Field. RHP Jarrett Grube (2-4, 2.98) pitches for the Diamond Jaxx and RHP Rubby De La Rosa (1-0, 0.00) makes his second start for Chattanooga.
