
Long Ball Helps Mets Win Finale 9-4 over Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - After a quiet first five games in Daytona, the St. Lucie offense exploded in the series finale against Daytona as the Mets won 9-4 over the Tortugas on Sunday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Five of the Mets eight hits went for extra bases. Alexander Ramirez hit a three-run opposite field homer in the fourth inning to open up a 6-0 lead. Brandon McIlwain put the finishing touches on the win with a two-run blast just inside the foul pole in right field in the ninth.
McIlwain also hit a double and went 2 for 4 with three RBI.
Matt O'Neill and Anthony Walters also cranked out doubles for the Mets offense, which entered the game with only 12 runs and 20 hits in the prior five games of the series.
Mets starter Jose Chacin (2-0) gave the team a quality start. He limited the Tortugas to two runs on seven hits over 6.0 innings. He struck out eight. Chacin only needed 26 pitches to get through the first three innings.
Austin Faith pitched 2.0 innings of hitless and scoreless relief behind Chacin. Brailin Gonzalez closed out the ninth in a non-save situation.
Daytona starter Gabriel Aguilera (0-1) scuffled in his team debut. He allowed three runs on two hits and three walks in 3.0 innings.
The Mets (41-37) are off on Monday. They return to action on Tuesday to start a six-game home series vs. the Palm Beach Cardinals. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 6:10 p.m.
