Lone Stars Trim Roster

June 16, 2004 - Intense Football League (Intense) - Lubbock GunSlingers News Release

With injuries to Lubbock Lone Star players continuing to heal the franchise has had to make decisions on who stays and who goes. Two defensive backs, Jay Allen and DeQuan Davis find themselves in a backfield with too many players and not enough roster spots.

The two have been released from the team and are hoping to catch on with another IFL team or move to another indoor football league.

Allen, who has been with the team since spring camp, played in 4 games (Amarillo, El Paso, @ El Paso, and San Angelo) for the Lone Stars. Allen finishes his Lone Star career with 10 tackles, 2 pass breakups, and no interceptions.

Davis joined the Lone Stars after week two and only played in two games (Corpus Christi and Amarillo) for the Lubbock franchise. Davis recorded 5 ½ tackles and 5 pass breakups in those two contests, but also failed to pull down an interception.

The Lone Stars will add Safety/Defensive Coordinator Larry Jones to this week’s active roster. Jones injured his knee after an interception he returned for a touchdown at home against El Paso in week 3. Jones has two interceptions in two games and leads the defense from the middle safety position.

The Lone Stars hit the road for a match up with Odessa this Saturday. The Roughnecks are the only team in the IFL the Lone Stars have yet to face. Both teams come into the game with an identical 3 and 3 record.

The Roughnecks have rolled over El Paso for their 3 wins, while loosing to Amarillo, Corpus Christi, and San Angelo.

The Roughnecks are 1 and 3 at home, but have improved dramatically in recent weeks. After loosing to Corpus in their opener by 45 points, the Roughnecks have outscored their opponents by an average score of 48 to 39.

The Lone Stars enter the contest as the top performing offense in the league averaging 61 points per contest, while holding their opponents to just 47 points. Odessa meanwhile averages 45 points a game while giving up 44 points per contest to their opponent.
