Lone Stars Set to Face Dust for Third Time
The Lone Stars and the Amarillo Dusters will meet for the third time Saturday night in Amarillo. In the first meeting at Amarillo the Dusters stole a game that the Lone Stars controlled for all but the final quarter. In the second game in Lubbock the Lone Stars showed the Dusters who was boss and ran up 74 points in the win. The third of four meetings between the two teams will exploit which game was indicative of how these two teams match up.
The Lone Stars will have the daunting task of trying to slow one of the best running attacks in the IFL. Julian Reece is lethal at the quarterback position with both his legs and his arm. Reece has put up a combined 428 passing yards and 11 touchdowns in the two games, and now he has a fullback to help carry the load. Dewayne Miles last week in El Paso racked up a league record 124 yards on 17 carries. In the two games against Lubbock he has run for 66 yards on just 10 carries.
The Lone Stars were able to contain Reeces mobility in the last meeting forcing him to throw from the pocket. If the Lone Stars hope to win this third meeting they will have to be able to repeat that effort while containing Miles out of the backfield.
The Lone Stars have yet to start a streak this season The team started out the season with a loss and then followed with a win, and has continued that streak loss, win, loss If the theme continues the Lone Stars will win this weekends game in Amarillo.
The Lone Stars will face Kendrick Walker again this weekend. The shut down corner returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and locked up the Lone Stars receivers all night. Walker comes into Saturdays game with a league best 8 interceptions and could have help if the former Dallas Cowboy, Kareem Larimore, returns for this weekends game. The Lone Stars will prepare for exactly that and Jenkins and Miller are prepared to go against what might be the best defensive back tandems in the IFL.
