July 5, 2004 - Intense Football League (Intense)
Lubbock GunSlingers News Release

The Lubbock Lone Stars came into Sunday afternoon's game a big underdog. The Stampede were 7-1 and had not lost at home, while the Lone Stars were sitting next to last in the standings and had not won a road game over a better ranked team. But from the opening kickoff to the final bell the Lone Stars looked like the team to beat.

The Lone Stars used an explosive offense and a much improved defensive attack to out score the Stampede in San Angelo 58-53. The Lone Stars had a big game from Quarterback Robby Jenkins who through for 368 yards, an unofficial league record (some teams stats have not been posted).

The Lone Stars managed to get all three receivers over 100 yards for the first time. Raymond Hardy led all receivers with 13 receptions for 146 yards and a career high 4 touchdowns. Anton Paige brought in 12 receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown, and TJ Glover caught 4 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Mike Buck, who took over coaching duties on the defensive side after Larry Jones left, called the best defensive game of the season to date. The Lone Stars defense gave up only 39 points on defense after averaging close to 50 points allowed in the prior 8 games. Louis Fite led the defense with 6.5 tackles and had a couple of bone crushing hits.

The Lone Stars were stopped only twice all day without scoring points on a drive, one was a missed field goal, the other an interception returned for a touchdown. The Defense on the other hand stopped the Stampede four times, three of which were on fourth down tries.

The Lone Stars improved to 4 and 5 and remain just a half game back of Corpus Christi and one back of Odessa. The Lone Stars can make it a three way tie for third place in the IFL standings with a win over the visiting Roughnecks Friday night at the Lubbock Coliseum.
