Lone Stars Bring Back Davis

July 12, 2004 - Intense Football League (Intense)
Lubbock GunSlingers News Release

The Lubbock Lone Stars welcomed back Quarterback Joe Davis to the team over the weekend. Davis will replace Robbie Jenkins, as the Lone Stars quarterback. Jenkins left the team after Fridays win over Odessa to return to Virginia and coach high school football.

Davis has 2 years of professional football experience. He spent 2003 in Europe, and earlier this year was the quarterback of an NIFL football team in Evansville, Indiana. Davis also spent about a month in Lubbock earlier this season learning the Lone Stars offense. Davis hurt his knee in his second workout, or would have most likely made the roster.

Davis brings a strong arm, good mobility, and a smart offensive mind to the Lone Stars. He will most likely get the start Saturday when Odessa (5-5) comes back to the Hub City.

Also coming into the mix of new quarterbacks is Brian Villanueva, who was Davis' backup in Evansville. Villanueva, who played his college ball at Ft. Valley State University, has 2 years of indoor football experience. In addition to spending this year in Evansville, Villanueva also spent time playing for the Tri-City Diesel in the NIFL.
