La Crosse Loggers News Release
LA CROSSE, WI - The La Crosse Loggers added a pair of athletic outfielders to their ever-growing 2013 roster today when they announced the signings of sophomores Eric Toole and Nick Day from the University of Iowa.
Logger fans are certainly familiar with the name Toole, as Eric's older brother Justin was a standout for the Lumbermen during the 2007-2008 seasons. Like his older brother before him, Eric followed Justin's path to the University of Iowa and made an immediate impact for the Hawkeyes last spring as a true freshman. The speedy Toole anchored down Iowa's centerfield position for the majority of 2012, hitting .283 with 13 RBI's and seven stolen bases over 127 at-bats for the Hawkeyes. Toole then took his tools to the Coastal Plains summer collegiate league last summer and became one of the team leaders for the Petersburg Generals. While there he led Petersburg in batting average (.317), on base percentage (.393), stolen bases (17) and fielding percentage (1.000) and his .317 average ranked eighth in the entire CPL. The younger Toole also excelled during his prep days at Lewis Central High School (Council Bluffs, Iowa) where he was a four-time all-state selection, was named a pre-season all-American as a junior and earned High School Baseball All-American honors his junior and senior year by Collegiate Baseball and Louisville Slugger.
Joining Toole in La Crosse this summer will be fellow Hawkeye sophomore outfielder Nick Day. The athletic Day saw limited action as a freshman for Iowa last spring before going out and enjoying a very successful summer in the Prospect summer collegiate League with the Quincy Gems in 2012. While there, Day hit .283 with six home runs and 43 RBI's along with swiping seven bags over 178 at-bats. The 6-2, 190 pound Day has the ability to play third base along with playing in the outfield as he did both last summer. Like his teammate Toole, Day also enjoyed a very fruitful prep career at Solon High School (Solon, Iowa) including an all-state selection and he was named a 2011 pre-season all-American by Collegiate Baseball.
Toole, Day and the rest of the Loggers will open the 2013 campaign on Wednesday, May 29 when they travel to Battle Creek, Mich. to take on the Bombers. The 2013 home opener is set for Sunday, June 2 when the Lumbermen welcome the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters to town for a 5:05 p.m. first pitch. Season tickets and mini-plans are on sale now at the Loggers ticket office (1225 Caledonia St., La Crosse) or by calling 608-796 9553.
