La Crosse Loggers News Release
LA CROSSE, WI - The La Crosse Loggers baseball club has enjoyed the pitching services of a number of Memphis Tigers over the past few years including current Cincinnati Reds farmhand Dan Langfield, 2011 NWL All-Star Eric Schoenrock and, most recently, 2012 closer Jonathon Van Eaton. Today, Logger team officials announced that two more Memphis pitchers will be making their way north this summer to dawn the Logger green when right-hander Craig Caufield and southpaw Colin Lee inked 2013 contracts.
Caufield is entering his red-shirt freshman season at Memphis after sitting out the 2012 spring due to injury. The Germantown, Tenn. native did get out and enjoy a successful summer stint it the Jayhawk league where he posted a 3-0 record with a 1.74 ERA over nine appearances out of the bullpen for the Dodge City A's. Caufield hauled in a plethora of awards during his prep career at Houston High School (Tenn.) including being recognized as a 2011 Southeast Region Honorable Mention all-American by Rawlings along with being tabbed as a 2012 Underclass Honorable Mention all- American by Perfect Game. He was also noted as one of the top juniors in the State of Tennessee, having been selected to play for Team Tennessee at the 2010 Junior Sunbelt Classic Tournament.
Freshman Colin Lee is one of the top newcomers on the Tigers pitching staff that will be looked upon to contribute mightily in his debut season this spring. The big, 6-2, 200 pound lefty, hails from the same hometown as teammate Craig Caufield and enjoyed a stellar prep career as well. Like Caufield, Lee pitched for Team Tennessee and posted some impressive numbers at Houston High where he went 13-4 with a 2.76 ERA and struck out 117 batters in 121 innings while walking only 30 over his high school career. Lee was also tabbed as a 2012 Southeast Region Honorable Mention all-American by Rawlings.
Caufield, Lee and the rest of the Loggers will open their 2013 campaign on May 29 when they travel to Battle Creek, Mich. to take on the Bombers. The 2013 home opener is set for Sunday, June 2 when the Loggers play host to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in a 5:05 p.m. affair at The Lumberyard. Season tickets are on sale now at the Loggers ticket office (1225 Caledonia Street, La Crosse) or by calling 608- 796-9553. Fan can also find more ticket information at www.lacrosseloggers.com.
