Lakeland Loggerheads News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. â Garth Brooks, Hank Williams Jr., Allan Jackson, Shania Twain, Waylon Jennings, Brooks and Dunn, and a host of other country music stars were shining on the Lakeland Loggerheads last night as they put a whoopin' on the Miami Manatees by a score of 6-4 at the Lakeland Center.
It was "Country Night" sponsored by 97 Country WPCV 97.5 FM and with the country music blaring, the good ole boys hootin' and hollerin', and the boots stompin', the Loggerheads lassoed the mangy Manatees and corralled themselves a victory.
Chris Cerrella scored twice, including the game winner, and added an assist to lead the Loggerheads charge. Curtis Sayler also netted a pair and Joe Seroski and Jeff Glowa added a goal a piece in the winning effort.
Lakeland netminder Carl Poissant was exceptional between the pipes stopping 29 of 33 Miami shots including a flurry of six or seven quality chances during a 5-on-3 Manatees advantage late in the third period.
"We got a terrific effort from everyone tonight," said Loggerheads Head Coach Tony Zappia. "We played well in both ends of the ice and in goal. The boys showed a lot of grit and never let down."
The Manatees return to the Lakeland Center tonight for a rematch with the Loggerheads at 7:05pm for "Guaranteed Fight Night".
Lakeland hits the road on Thursday February 26th at 7:05pm in Alabama vs. Slammers and then head to Jacksonville on Saturday the 28th for a 7:05pm face off with the Barracudas.
The Loggerheads return home on February 29th for a 4:05pm start against the dreaded Orlando Seals. Call the Loggerheads Offices at (863)-843-PUCK (7825) for more information.
The Loggerheads face off with the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Orlando Seals, Miami Manatees and the Macon Trax in the WHA2's inaugural season. All games will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.
