Idaho Steelheads News Release

Defenseman Cody Lampl has signed a contract with the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads, head coach and director of hockey operations Hardy Sauter announced on Monday.

Lampl, 24, became the first player with Idaho roots to play for the Steelheads last season. He was born in Pennsylvania, but grew up in Ketchum, ID, and calls the Wood River Valley his home. His family still lives in the Ketchum area.

"It helped me so much as a rookie (last season) to be surrounded by friends and family," Lampl said. "It really helped me get comfortable and helped me not to be overwhelmed in my first pro season."

Lampl skated in 44 regular-season games with Idaho last season, notching one goal and adding 12 assists. He was instantly popular among Idaho's fans not only because of his home town, but also because of his fearless play and big hits. Lampl also developed a big group of fans at Boise's Frank Church High School, where he volunteered much of last season and captained "Cody's Crew," a group of Frank Church students who met attendance and academic goals.

He added a pair of assists in twelve post-season games for Idaho, helping the Steelheads reach the ECHL's Kelly Cup Finals.

The Colorado College product is the fourth defenseman signed by Sauter, who was a defenseman himself during his playing days. Weston Tardy, Brendan Milnamow, and Dustin Molle have also signed contracts for the upcoming season.

"That's a pretty good group of guys," Lampl said. "We're not exactly grizzled veterans, but we learned how to win together last season and we're looking forward to doing it again this season."

Forwards Geoff Irwin and Kael Mouillierat have also signed with Idaho, giving Sauter six players on his training camp roster at this point.

The Steelheads open the regular season on October 15 when they host the Victoria Salmon Kings at Qwest Arena. Ticket plans for the 2010-2011 season are available right now, starting at just $275 per seat for all 36 home games during the regular season. Partial-season plans are also available.
