Lobsters make mark at U.S. Open

It was another spectacular U.S. Open for the Boston Lobsters.

The entire Lobsters organization wants to thank its supporters, sponsors and fans alike for their passion for World TeamTennis and their participation in a successful 2011 campaign that saw the Lobsters earn a second consectuive berth in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Here is a rundown of the Lobsters' lineup and how each player fared in New York City:

-- Two-time returning marquee player John Isner made his deepest run in a Grand Slam tournament to date with an appearance in the quarterfinals of the men's singles draw, where he eventually lost to Great Britain's Andy Murray, 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2). With his performance, Isner now ranks No. 18 in the world, his highest-ever ATP ranking.

-- Fellow marquee player James Blake, who also played his second consecutive season with the Lobsters this summer, defeated Jesse Huta Galung of the Netherlands, 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to reach the Round of 64. Blake is currently ranked No. 73 in the world, over 30 spots higher than he was at this time last year.

-- Newcomer Irina Falconi had a compelling run to the Round of 32, as her upset of 14th-seeded Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia (2-6, 6-3, 7-5) was one of the highlights of the tournament. Falconi also won a pair of mixed doubles matches with fellow American Steve Johnson to reach the quarterfinals. The energetic 2010 National College Player of the Year at Georgia Tech is now the fourth-ranked American in women's singles and No. 74 in the world.

-- Two-year Lobster veteran CoCo Vandeweghe earned her first Grand Slam victory when she defeated Italy's Alberta Brianti, 7-5, 6-3, in the first round. Vandweghe, who also played with fellow two-year Lobster veteran Eric Butorac in a mixed doubles first-round match, is currently ranked as the seventh-highest American in women's singles and No. 97 in the world and being coached by Lobster veteran Jan-Michael Gambill.

-- Butorac combined with partner Jean-Julien Rojer of the St. Louis Aces to win a first round match over Grigor Dimitrov and Dmitry Tursunov. Butorac, the third-highest ranked American doubles player in the world, and Rojer are currently ranked No. 9 overall among men's doubles pairings.

-- Newcomer Mashona Washington competed in mixed doubles with partner Michael Russell and dropped a first-round match to Nuria Llagostera Vives and Oliver Marach.
