July 9, 2012 - World TeamTennis (WTT)
Boston Lobsters News Release

The Boston Lobsters are teaming up with Haven From Hunger for a food drive at the Ferncroft Country Club.

The food drive will take place on Sunday, July 15, the Lobsters' Family Health and Wellness Day for their match against the Springfield Lasers.

Fans will be encouraged to bring items such as cereal, tuna, peanut butter and canned fruit, while other foods are also welcome. The contributions can be dropped off at a truck that will be parked at Ferncroft before and during the match.

Haven From Hunger is a non-profit 501[c]3 food pantry/soup kitchen that has been in operation since 1985. Based out of Peabody, Haven From Hunger does not receive any federal or state financing exclusively due to the fact that it is in a building that is not handicapped accessible and relies solely on the generosity of local churches, individual donors, civic organizations and private grant donations. Haven From Hunger has two full-time employees, four part-time employees and over 200 volunteers that make up its staff, so it relies on the generosity of its donors.

Haven From Hunger is open four days per week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide bags of food to approximately 100 families per day. On those same days between 5-6 p.m. Haven From Hunger serves dinner to approximately 50 children and adults.

The populations Haven From Hunger serves are single parent homes, children, elderly and disabled. The most recent applicants are working class poor who make too much to qualify for SNAP benefits, but have to make choices like heating their homes or putting food on the table. There has been a 35% increase in people who require Haven From Hunger's services in 2012.

The Boston Lobsters are a World TeamTennis organization based out of Middleton's Ferncroft Country Club and play their matches at Joan Norton Stadium. This regular season runs from July 9 to July 28. This summer's team includes such players as John Isner, Andre Agassi, Robby Ginepri, Jan-Michael Gambill, Eric Butorac, Irina Falconi and Carly Gullickson-Eagle.
