Montgomery Biscuits News Release
HOOVER, Ala.- Kyle Lobstein (3-2) tossed eight shutout innings and became the first Biscuits (23-22) starter of the year to pitch into the eighth inning in a 5-1 win over the Birmingham Barons (22-23) Sunday afternoon at Regions Park.
Lobstein dazzled from the get-go striking out four while only walking one and scattering four hits to earn the victory.
The Barons got their only run of the game with a solo home run from Seth Loman off Adam Liberatore in the ninth inning. The home run was the first run scored by Birmingham in 27 innings against the Biscuits.
Montgomery struck first in the game after Jared Mitchell dropped a fly ball off the bat of Hak-Ju Lee. Jose Lobaton would later drive in Lee with a single to right field. The Biscuits would add two runs in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Jose Quintana (1-3) suffered the loss, giving up four runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings.
With the victory, the Biscuits took four of five from the Barons and improved to a plus-500 record for the first time this season.
Montgomery will have back-to-back off days on Monday and Tuesday before starting a five-game series with the Jackson Generals. RHP Joe Cruz will start for the Biscuits while LHP Danny Hultzen will pitch for the Generals. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm Wednesday.
