Oklahoma Warriors News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - Mikko Liukkonen scored his fifth goal of the season to send teddy bears flying onto the ice, but the Lone Star Brahmas scored three straight goals to take a 3-1 win over the Oklahoma Warriors at Blazers Ice Centre Sunday.
Liukkonen jumped through neutral ice and split the Lone Star defense before angling the puck off a defenseman and into the net 5:43 into the opening frame to give Oklahoma a 1-0 lead. Adam Smith set up Hunter Jones on a zone outlet from behind the Warriors net before Jones sent it further to Liukkonen and the stuffed animals began to fly from the stands. The stuffed animals will be donated to children in behavioral health care at SSM St. Anthony. The Brahmas answered back to tie the game at 1-1 one minute and 48 seconds later and the score held through the intermission.
Lone Star scored a breakaway goal to jump up 2-1 under five minutes into the second period, and held on to add an empty net goal by the final horn and take the 3-1 final.
The Oklahoma Warriors and Lone Star Brahmas will meet for each team's next two games Friday and Saturday March 3 and 4 at Blazers Ice Centre. The weekend will feature 7:15 p.m. puck drops, $3 beer and $10 admission for those with valid college IDs in celebration of college night.
