Lions To Visit The 'hawks Nest

April 5, 2017 - National Arena League (NAL)
Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release

Allentown, PA : The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks are back on home turf this week after a tough outing in Jacksonville. While the 'Hawks nest will be buzzing, the Columbus Lions will bring a tough challenge to town. The two teams face off Sunday evening, with a 5:00pm kickoff. The game is presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network and the first 1,000 fans in the door will get a FREE Steelhawks t-shirt. The game will be viewable locally on Service Electric TV2 Sports and will be streamed via YouTube.

The Steelhawks (2-1) had a strong but not victorious showing against the Sharks and will need to pull all three phases of the game together if they want to get back on track. The offense has been led by QB Warren Smith Jr. (league leader in pass efficiency-111.6 and completion rate- 69%) and WR Darius Prince (league leader in receptions-22 and yards-269). WR Brandon Renford had a break out game last week, snagging three touchdowns on eight catches (86 yds).

On the opposite side of the ball, DB Eddie Davis III has been clutch, leading the league with nine passes defended (6 ints, 3 pbu's). DB Rodney Hall Jr. led the defensive backfield last game with 7.5 tackles, a tackle for a loss, 3 pass break ups, and an interception.

Lehigh Valley's defense will have a tough matchup with Columbus (2-1) on Sunday. The Lions are currently the league's second leading scoring offense (avg 63 pts/game). Michael Reeve has been a dangerous receiver; he's tied atop the league ranks with seven touchdowns. After having a quarterback competition early on, the Lions seem to have settled with Darren Daniel (565 yds, 15 tds, 58% completion) as their leader under center.

With a long time rival in Columbus, every matchup between the Steelhawks and Lions has proven to be a showdown, and this week should be no exception. Lehigh Valley needs to see how they will rebound after a tough loss, while Columbus is currently rolling with two wins in a row after falling to Jacksonville in their season opener.

The Steelhawks will have three more home games on Embassy Bank Field inside the PPL Center before going back on the road. The next game will be Saturday, April 15th, 7:00pm kickoff.
