Lions Sign Punter/Kicker Head and Offensive Lineman Scott

VANCOUVER, B.C. 2 May 2003 – BC Lions General Manager and Head Coach, Wally Buono, signed punter/kicker Curtis Head and offensive lineman Earl Scott. In keeping with team policy, terms of the contracts were not released.

Head, a 5'11", 179-pound native of Shelbyville, Kentucky played at University of Marshall. As a Senior in 2002, Head had a field goal percentage of 76.2 and averaged better than 43 yards per punt. In 2001 Head was a second team All-MAC selection as a punter after averaging eighth in the nation, and second in the league, in punting average. Averaged a career-best 44.4 yards per punt while placing 33 percent of his kicks inside the opponents' 20-yard line.

Head, the 2002 Thundering Herd team captain, was honoured in April of 2003 with the Cam Henderson Scholarship Award presented annually to the student athlete who best exemplifies the spirit of scholarship while participating in athletics. He was a three-time All Mid-American Conference selection, earning first-team honors in 2002. He also earned Mid-American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors during his career and was named 2001 Marshall Special Teams Most Valuable Player. Head is an education major, specializing in physical education (K-12) and mathematics (5-9). He was born February 16, 1981.

Scott, a 6'3" 200-pound guard was selected by the Ottawa Renegades in the expansion draft from Toronto on January 17, 2002 and was traded the following day to Toronto. Scott was placed in the suspended list on May 30. Scott originally singed with Toronto on October 18, 2001. Scott then signed with Detroit of the AFL on December 13 of 2001. In October of 2000, Scott was drafted by Memphis (XFL) following stints with San Jose SaberCats (AFL) in 1998 and Tampa Bay Storm (AFL) 1997.

Scott spent the spring of 1997 with the Amsterdam Admirals of the World League and attended the University of Arkansas between 1991-1995, the same university as BC Lions linebacker Carl Kidd.
