
Lions ink receiving trio; release Boden

(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club announced today that they have signed import receivers Dedrick Poole, Rufus Skillern as well as South Surrey Big Kahuna Rams standout Ben Wilson.
Poole spent three seasons at the University of Arkansas before transferring to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2006. He spent one year with the Golden Lions ('06), earning All-SWAC honors including SWAC Newcomer of the Year after leading the conference in all-purpose yards and setting a school record for the longest run from scrimmage with a 97-yard jaunt versus Grambling State. Poole, who split time at running back and wide receiver also led the SWAC in kickoff returns in 2006 and notched five touchdowns on the ground and another four as a receiver. Poole signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in May of 2007 and was later released.
Skillern appeared in 42 games over four years at San Jose State ('03- '06) recording a total of 84 receptions for 1316 yards and 11 TD's. He was the team's leading receiver his final two seasons and even threw a 53-yard TD in 2005.He was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in May of 2006 and was waived during training camp in August.
Wilson spent the second half of the 2007 season on the Lions practice roster while playing for the South Surrey Big Kahuna Rams of the BCFC. He comes off a great season with the Rams recording 47 receptions for 763 yards and 9 TD's. The junior standout also returned 29 punts for a league leading 567 yards including a 60-yard TD return. Wilson turned in the second greatest single game performance in the 100-year history of the CJFL last season torching the Vancouver Island Raiders for 420 multi-purpose yards with an astounding 265 receiving yards and 155 yards on kick-off and punt returns.
The Lions also announced that receiver Josh Boden has been released.
BC Lions Rookie Camp will begin on Thursday May 29th in Abbotsford and run through Saturday, May 31st with the entire squad hitting the field on Sunday, June 1st. Click here for more information on 2008 BC Lions Training Camp.
The Lions travel to Regina to take on the defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders in preseason action on Friday, June 13th and will host the Calgary Stampeders on Thursday, June 19th at 7:00 pm.
