B.C. Lions News Release
(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club is pleased to announce that defensive lineman Khreem Smith has signed a contract extension with the team. Smith was set to enter the option year of his previous deal.
"Khreem has quietly developed into a key veteran presence on the field," said vice president of football operations and GM Wally Buono. "He has great instincts as a pass rusher and gives our defence an added dimension."
Originally joining the Lions in July 2011, Khreem has now spent two seasons with the club, recording 12 sacks and five forced fumbles in 32 regular season games.
Last year, Khreem was third on the club and fifth in the CFL with seven sacks while adding 20 tackles over 17 games. His three forced fumbles in 2012 led the Lions and tied for third in the league overall. Khreem notched sacks in six different games including a season-high two versus Hamilton on July 6, 2012.
"Khreem has been a great addition to our club and has become a key part of a talented defensive front," said Lions head coach Mike Benevides. "He has a unique ability to make big plays at key times and I am very pleased to have him with us."
