Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The Lincoln Saltdogs earned a split of a four-game series in St. Paul on Thursday, beating the Saints 5-3. Lincoln improves to 20-25 on the season.

The Saltdogs scored the decisive runs in the top of the eighth, right after St. Paul tied the game at two. A single, a walk and a sacrifice bunt put Shawn McGill at third and Jake Jadlowski at second with one out. McGill broke for home as Brandon Jones tried to lay down a squeeze bunt, but the pitch went in the dirt. As McGill slid home, however, Saints catcher Scott Knazek was unable to pick up the baseball, allowing McGill to steal home and putting Lincoln up 3-2. Jadlowski stole third on the play, and Jones drove him in with a sacrifice fly.

St. Paul made things interesting, scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth to cut Lincoln's lead to one. Closer Chris Thompson came on to get the final two outs in the eighth, and the Saltdogs got the run back in the top of the ninth when Tycen Povey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, making the score 5-3. St. Paul put the tying runs on second and third with two out in the bottom of the ninth, but Thompson struck out Tony Mansolino to end the game. Thompson earned his fifth save with the Saltdogs and his 15th overall on the season.

Lincoln starter Zac Cline pitched well enough to win, allowing just two runs on three hits in 6.2 innings while striking out three. Adam Daniels (3-1) pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief to earn his third win of the year. Shea McFeely put Lincoln on the board with a solo home run in the fifth, his second of the season.

Lincoln heads home to play a three-game series against Wichita over the Independence Day weekend. Lefty Jonathan Figueroa will start on Friday for the Saltdogs.
